Hickleton Prevail In Keen Game

Hickleton, after a struggle, gained a 3 wicket win over Doncaster in their first game of the season on Saturday at Thurnscoe.

Hickleton sent the visitors in on a drying wicket and soon had Doncaster in difficulties.  They had six wickets down for 37 runs.  A good innings by C. Johnson (31), lifted the score, the last wicket falling for 70 runs.  E. Hemmington (11) and G. Hutchinson (10) were the only others to reach double figures.  Joe Riley bowled well to take 5 for 30 for Hickleton and W. Lockwood had 3 for 27. A. Otter, a newcomer, had 8 overs, taking 1 for 8.

Hickleton had to struggle hard for runs and lost A. Turner (3 run out) J. Threlfall (3), J. Hutchinson (9), and H. Riley (10), with only 26 runs on. G, Gibbs, joined by J. Riley put on 29 for the fifth wicket, swinging the game to Hickleton’s favour.  Riley left for 9 and Gibbs made a very useful 27, hitting four 4’s. With the score at 67 for seven, W. Lockwood clinched the game, hitting a four off his first ball. J. Bullard took 3 for 22 and J. Burton 3 for 32 for Doncaster.

Denaby Win Low Scoring Game

Denaby followed up their victory over Cortonwood by defeating Rotherham at Denaby by 42 runs in a low scoring game on a soft wicket.

Denaby, who batted first, had the assistance of Poole, the Notts. County player, but after scoring 19 he was caught. Leading scorers in Denaby’s total of 92 were Corey (14), Robinson (24) and Wardle (21). For Rotherham, Morton took 4 for 18 and Root 2 for 18.

In reply, Rotherham could only score 51 due to the fine bowling of Wardle (6 for 24) and Porter (4 for 24).  Chief scorers were Winder (12) and Grobert (10).
