The marriage took place on Wednesday at St Helens, Thurnscoe, of Mr William Eastland Ann, second son of the late Sir Edwin Ann and of Lady Ann, West Parklands, Derby, and Miss Dora Minnikin, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs John Minnikin, of Low Grange, Thurnscoe.
The bridegroom, with his brothers own an extensive drapery business in the Midlands, and is also a lieutenant in the Machine gun section of the first Battalion, Derbyshire volunteer Regiment, is a member of a leading Derby family. His father was Mayor of Derby some years ago, and it was during the visit of King Edward to Derby, on the occasion of the holding of the Royal Agricultural Show there in 1896, that Sir Edwin Ann was knighted.
The bride’s father, Mr John Minnikin is one of the ablest mining engineers in South Yorkshire, and his manager of Hickleton Main, with which colliery he has been connected for 14 years.
The weather was glorious and great interest was manifested locally in the event, the old church and its precincts being densely thronged by spectators. Happy indeed must have been the bright, full sun shone on her with an effulgence to which we have been too little accustomed of late.
The service was fully choral, and the bridal procession was led into church by the choir, singing the hymn “The Voice that breathed o’er Eden.”
The Rev C.F. Twitchett was the officiating minister. The bride was escorted to the altar by her father. She looked very charming in account of ivory charmeuse, and a veil of Chantilly lace, with orange blossom (the Vale been lent by a sister-in-law Mrs J Colleton). She carried a bouquet of carnations, lilies and white heather, the gift of the bridegroom.
