Mexborough Montagu Cup for Thurnscoe
Thurnscoe Vics. 3 Silverwood Colliery 0
A large crowd saw the final of the Montagu Cup competition on Mexborough Athletic Ground yesterday morning, but the game never reached great heights and for long periods was tame.
Thurnscoe generally had the measure their opponents. although only one goal was scored in the half, by Wroe, after a flying header from Aveyard had rebounded from the bar.
Silverwood forwards rarely threatened danger apart from Jones, who used the ball well on the right wing.
Soon after the interval Mace, Thurnscoe captain and centre half, shot a grand second goal.
Routledge added third the the last few minutes. The cup was presented by Miss M. W Henderson. Matron of the Hospital, and medals Mr. J. N. Drake, secretary-supt.
