Thurnscoe Miner Cautioned.
“You have sailed very near the wind,” said the Clerk at Doncaster on Saturday, to George Cain, miner, of Thurnscoe, who was charged with having stolen a pair of gent’s boots valued at 7s. 6d., belonging to Stanley 1 Hebron, of Cromwell Street, Thurnscoe, on 1 September 29th
It was stated that Hebron’s 21-year-old son took the boots out of the house while the complainant was in bed. He missed them, and later found they had been sold in a Denaby hotel the same evening.
Cain said his wife found the boots at the corner of the street, but could not trace the owner.
The charge was dismissed, Cain being warned that next time he found articles he should take them to the police.
