Hard Hitting At Abbeydale.
Longley and Bennett In Big Partnership.
Collegiate 236 for 6 (T.A.W. White 55)
Hickleton 178 for 7 (H Senior 35, F Longley 82; Varley 5-43)
Another enprible game was played between Collegiate and Hickleton, this time at Abbeydale. The game at Thurnscoe a few weeks ago ended in an exciting win for Collegiate in the last minute or so of the 4 ¾ hours available, but on Saturday Hickleton saved the game.
The aggregate score for the game was 414 for 13 wickets, and at the close Hickleton were 58 behind with 3 wickets to fall.
For their big total Collegiate were largely indebted to White, who was in his happiest mood. He hit a six and 8 fours to get 38 of his 56 by boundary shots. The hit for six was caught by a fieldsman, but his feet were over the boundary’s edge. But the highest individual score of the game was made by Langley, who played his best innings of the season hit 10 fours in his 82. He and Bennett scored 111 for the fifth wicket after the first four hail fallen for 64, one of the best fifth-wicket partnerships in the club’s history.
In spite of this Varley took 5 wickets for 43 runs for Collegiate: the only bowling figures of note in the game.
