Nasty Talk at Thurnscoe
For having used obscene language at Thurnscoe on the 14th inst, Harriet sites, a married woman, of that place, was fined 15/-and the costs.
The case was proved by police constable Hughes and Sowray.
Another Thurnscoe married woman, named Emma Hardman, was summoned for having used obscene language on the 8th inst.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Man Ann Wood, a married woman, said that on Sunday, the 8th inst. she was standing at the end of the yard near her home, about 4 p.m., when she saw the defendant talking to a Mrs. Ward. and saying something about a fowl that had had its neck knocked out. The defendant used obscene language.
Sarah Ann Lunn, another neighbour, also said she heard the defendant use obscene language.
Margaret Elizabeth Ward said she had occasion to speak to the husband of the defendant about the killing of one of her files when the defendant came up and began to use thy filthy language. Henry Hardman, the husband of the defendant, said he was prevent when the conversation took place, but he did not hear is wife say anything more than that the woman Ward was a “Salvation Army cat.”
A fine of 2/6 and the costs was imposed.
