New headquarters for the Brampton Home Guard were opened on Saturday by Col. M. C. Mertyn, D. S.O., M.C.

Mexborough Local Association of Scouts have decided to organise a Baden Powell memorial competition for scouting efficiency.

Mr. A. J. Lineham Smith, of Wath, on Saturday completed sixty years’ service with Messrs. Nicholson and Co., solicitors, of Wath.

A Conisborough man, who is serving in the Navy took part in the Battle of Cape Matapan, in which the Italian Fleet was routed.

At a ” Buff ” ceremony at Wath. Mr. A. P. Rolfe was raised to the third degree of the Order by his father: Mr. John Rolfe, K.0.M., of Wombwell.

“You are not so definite?” asked Police Inspector Williams of a woman witness at Barnsley yesterday. “Deaf?” said the woman, “Certainly not.”

The yearly issues from Dearne lending libraries totalled 88,780 up to March 31st as follows: Goldthorpe 52,519, Thurnscoe 21,791, and Bolton 14,470.

The institution and induction of Archdeacon of Doncaster as Vicar of High Melton, will take place in High Melton Parish Church on Friday, May 9th.

A suggestion that hospitals should employ senior medical students, in their final year, as junior house officers is made by the Minister of State for Scotland in an appeal to public authorities to review their medical services.

Mrs. Sarah Ann Smith, of Victoria Road. Barnsley, a former Mayoress of Barnsley, widow of Mr. Herbert Smith, late president of the Yorkshire Mineworkers’ Association and of the Miners’ Federation of Great Britain, left £2,735 (net personalty £2,681).

Mr. Horace Williams, son of Mr. Tom Williams, M.P. for the Don Valley and Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, and Mrs. Williams, was married in London on Saturday to Miss Mary Morrison, daughter of the Home Secretary.
