Thurnscoe Man Sent to Prison

For stealing growing peas, value 10s., the property of Peter Turnbull, farmer, of Thumscoe, on July 17th. Edward Jones (29) unemployed, of Thurnscoe, was at Doncaster West Riding Police Court on Saturday sent to prison for one month.

It was stated that Jones had been employed as a pea-puller by Turnbull, and was found with peas in the lining of his jacket.

Jones said he had been ill and was drawing relief and sick pay of £2 a week for himself and Row his family.

Ernest Roper (18), screenhand, and a 16 years old haulage hand, both of Thurnscoe, were fined £2 and £1 respectively for stealing two pea bags and a quantity of growing peas, also the property Turnbull.
