Mr. H. Smith (Leeds) and Miss P. Crockett (Bolton)
Two members of the Old Wathonians’ Society. Miss Prudence Crockett B.A., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Crockett of 34. The Green, Bolton-on-Dearne, and Mr. Harry Smith, B.A., B.Sc., son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Smith, of 161, Harehills Avenue, Leeds, were married by the Rev. E. D. Davies, of Mexborough, at the Free Christian Church, Bolton, on Tuesday.
The bride was educated at Durham University after which she taught at a Sheffield school and is now a member of the teaching staff of Thurnscoe Hill School. The bridegroom, now serving in the Royal Artillery, graduated at Leeds University and before entering the Army was physical training and games master at Wath Grammar School.
Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of white silk crepe, cut on princess lines with a veil and wreath. Her bouquet was of red carnations and white heather. Miss Renie Smith, Miss Alice Merrington and Miss Muriel Smith were bridesmaids and wore gowns of white silk with white coatees and Juliet caps and sprays of carnations.
The maids received from the bridegroom powder compacts engraved with his regimental crest. The bridegroom’s brothers, Messrs. W. and F. Smith, were best man and groomsman respectively. Mrs Crockett was attired in a mulberry coloured coat with a dress of blue cloque and navy accessories.
The guests included university friends of bride and bridegroom and several of their colleagues. Mr. R. Crockett and Mr. C. Smith, brothers of bride and bridegroom, were unable to attend the wedding, as they are both serving with the Royal Engineers in the East.
The numerous wedding gifts included cut-glass candlesticks from the staff of Thurnscoe Hill School and furniture from the staff of Wath Grammar School.
