Thurnscoe Benefactor
Material Recognition by The Inhabitants

Thurnscoe, that newly constituted urban district which depends largely on the Hickleton Main Colliery, paid tribute, in tangible form, last night to the worth and generosity of the Lord of the Manor, the Rev. T.T. Taylor of Dodworth.

The inhabitants of Thurnscoe owe a debt of gratitude to Mr Taylor which will never be met.

Though a church of England clergyman, Mr Taylor has bestowed his gifts irrespective of creed or party. He has helped both Church and chapel, built an Institute, and provided a parish hall, which he had just handed over to the local authority as their new home.

He has been ever ready to give a fillip to the football or cricket club; but apart from this financial system township, his wealth has been particularly shown by genuine interest in public affairs. He was chairman of the old Parish Council since its commencement, and is a member of the newly constituted Urban Council.

His latest gift to the township is a portion of land for a new Parish Hall, and £100 to start the building scheme.

The public testimonial, presented to him last night at the Urban Council meeting by the chairman, Mr M Noakes, consisted of an English made oak roll-top desks, a silver salver, a silver ink stand and a pair of silver candlesticks subscribed for by the inhabitants.
