Private Leonard Spencer
(York and Lancaster)

of 149, Back Lane, Thurnscoe, son of the late Mr Joe Spencer, also nephew of Councillor L Jones of Mexborough, was killed on May 29 last.

He was 21, and enlisted in August 1914. He was formerly employed at Hickleton Main.

He had been in France 18 months, and was just about to receive his first furlough when his grandparents received the sad news that he had been killed in action.
