384 Applicants for 80 Houses.
At the monthly meeting of the Thurnscoe District Council, on Wednesday night, the Clerk intimated receipt of a letter from the Hull and Barnsley Railway Company, in reply to the Council’s recent application for the re-instatement of the 9-30 p.m. train from Wath to Hickleton, stating that they found it impossible at the present juncture to put on the late train.
Coun. L. Wilkinson said that he was not satisfied with the reply received from the Railway Company. It was decided to write a further letter to the Company, asking for the train to be run on Wednesda) and Saturday evenings.
The Medical Officer reported the general health of the district had been good during August, although the epidemic of diarrhea still prevailed.
Eleven more applications had been received for houses, making a total of 354. The Council had only 80 houses available at present. He reported a birth-rate of 40.2 per 1000, and a death-rate of 7.1.
No cases of typhoid had been reported.
The surveyor reported that 97 houses were now tenanted, and a further 12 house, were really for inspection, making a total of 109 tenanted or ready for occupation. The total number of houses tenanted or ready for occupation during the past 20 months was 210.
