20 years old Linda Fowell of Dane Street North, Thurnscoe, who joined the fleet Air Arm when she was 17, has just passed her examinations for a petty officer.

Petty Officer Fowell, the younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E, Fowell, was educated at Thurnscoe High School, and in the first year that G.C.E. examinations were introduced at the school gained two ‘0’ level passes.

She joined the Services as a rating and then became a W.R.N.S. and then a Leading W.R.N.S.

She was trained at Chatham and then spent 18 month: on H.M.S. Culdrose at Helston, Cornwall. After a spell on H.M.S. Lossiemouth in Scotland she has returned to Culdrose and her work as a stores accountant.

Miss Fowell’s brother is living in Vancouver, Canada, with his wife and three children and her sister. Mrs. B. Beaumont lives in Whitelea Road, Mexborough.
