Assault on Police.
Thurnscoe Man Sent to Gaol.
For an assault on P.c. Prance, at Thurnscoe on Saturday, .Joseph Bennett, a 52-year-old Thurnscoe miner, was sent to prison for six months by the Doncaster West Riding magistrates on Monday. He was given a further month for being drunk and dis orderly, the sentences to run concurrently. He had 57 previous convictions.
P.c. France said he spoke to Bennett about his drunkenness and causing a disturbance. Later he had to arrest him, and Bennett was so violent that he had to use handcuffs and get the assistance of another constable. Bennett kicked him on the legs and in the stomach, and threatened both constables.
Bennett said he was drunk, but could remember nothing except that he did not assault the constable.
