Audition for Girl Singer at Thurnscoe
Hoping to sing her way to success is 15-years-old Thurnscoe girl, Carole Carver of 7, Garden Street. She will soon be appearing as principal girl in the pantomime “Jack and the Beanstalk,” to be produced at the Welfare Hall, Goldthorpe in February by Mr. F. Walker. A few weeks ago she appeared in “Spotting Stars” at the Empire Cinema, a show produced by Leslie Gould, who “spotted’ such personalities as Ruby Murray and Diana Dors, and she won first prize in the talent competition. She was awarded a cup and is to have a television audition at a later date.
She sang in a preliminary round, semi-final and final against many well-known local artists, and her singing was highly praised by Mr. Gould. In the final she had to sing before a panel of judges from London and one of these has offered her an audition for a part in a summer season show in Jersey this year.
Her singing career started at the age of seven, and under the tuition of Miss K. Noble, she won many awards at local musical festivals. Cups, medals and plaques are proudly displayed at her home. Carole, who attended The Hill, Thurnscoe East, until a few months ago, now works in the Barnsley British Co-operative store in Thurnscoe. Carol says she owes much to her accompanist, Jeff Evans, of Bolton, who arranges all her music. “I can’t thank him enough for what he has done” she says. Carole is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Carver and her father is also a well-known local singer.
