Thurnscoe Show Comment

The 18th annual show of the Thurnscoe East Garden and Allotments Society was held in St. Helen’s Schoolroom on Saturday and proved a success.  Mr W. Brooke presided at the opening ceremony performed by Mr A W. Measures, secretary of the Yorkshire Federation of Allotments Associations.

The chairman said the idea of holding the show in Thurnscoe West was to try and get better amalgamation among the gardeners and to get them all to join in the society

Mr. Measures congratulated the society for the excellent show and also the women who had taken part and said the county still needed to grow more food

The judge, Mr. W Wragg, F.R.H S.. of Stocksbridge, said there had been a big improvement in the Thurnscoe shows since first he paid them a visit. He congratulated the growers of gladioli saying they were the best he had seen in his life.         —

The secretary (Mr C. Banks) said the entries were up by 50 on last year.

Mr C Tough thanked the judges and all who had helped in the success of the show.

The judge for embroidery was Mrs Garnett, of Bessacar and for jams and bread. Mrs. Laurence of Campsall.
