Thurnscoe Couples Domestic Differences

At Doncaster on Saturday, Charles Seaton, collier, Thurnscoe, was charged with charges persistent cruelty to his wife Hannah Seaton.

Mr Andrews appeared for the complainant and Mr Baddeley defended.

The parties were married 16 years ago at Chesterfield, and there are five children under 16 years of age.

Complainant said her husband gave her a black eye the Friday before Christmas, and on the fifth inst he threatened to give her another black eye. He had ill used once or twice a week for the last six months. One night he assaulted her when in bed, and she left him on the fifth because she was afraid of him.

Cross-examined by Mr Baddeley, she admitted her husband was not always in work. He left her 15 shillings on the day she left the house, but she did not touch it. She porn is a gold card for search showing on the day she left him, and she admitted having pulled his trousers on two occasions, but said that she did so to obtain food.

The Chairman (Mr Yarborough) said no doubt defendant had struck his wife, although he had received considerable provocation, but they did not feel they could grant a separation.

They would bind him over to keep the peace, as a wife must be protected against personal violence.

Defendant was bound over in £5 to keep the peace for six months.
