Boxing – Howley wins after 15 rounds
A fight of local interest took place on Saturday at Hearne Athletic Grounds, Barosley, between Jim Birch and Jack Howley alias Glover. These two topped the bill, and fought the 15 rounds, the full distance. Glover being rather unfortunate to lose.
After the first two rounds Glover’s ringcraft and science was very interesting to watch. Jack Howley. alias Glover, is a Thurnscoe native lad, born in Whitworth Buildings and now living in Tudor Street.
A good many from Thurnscoe went to the fight and were highly satisfied with Glovers display.
After the fight Glover challenged Birch to meet at 9st for £25 to £50 a side, this was accepted.
