Council Official’s Departure to Wakefield

The district will learn with regret that Mr and Mrs F.C. Brookes, of Lorna Villas are leaving the town for Wakefield.

Mr Brookes, who was formerly sanitary inspector to Thurnscoe Urban Council, obtained a post under the West Riding County Council about the time when amalgamation joined Thurnscoe to Bolton.

Until now, however, Mr Brookes has continued to reside in Thurnscoe, but we learn that within the next few weeks he intends to move to Wakefield.

Mr Brookes had often been in the limelight in his triple capacity of sanitary inspector, actor and playwright. He has been one of the leading members of Thurnscoe Amateur Dramatic Society for many years. He has played many parts and taken a great interest in the technical side of amateur theatrical production too, for he has also been stage-manager and assistant producer.

Mr Brookes wrote a one act play on the intriguing subject of euthanasia which the society gave in the Doncaster Drama Festival earlier in the year.

The society made a farewell presentation to Mr Brookes at Doncaster Café on Wednesday.
