Councillor Volunteers.

March 1940

Mexborough & Swinton Times – Saturday 2 March 1940

Councillor Volunteers.

Coun. C. K Williams, of Thurnscoe, has bidden his friends “Goodbye” and gone to the South of England to take up duties as a naval policeman, for which he volunteered.

Mr. Williams, who is a shopkeeper, served throughout the last war as an artillery man. He was returned to Thurnscoe Urban Council about six years ago and has held his seat ever since.

He has done particularly good work as a member of the governing body of the Mexborough Secondary School and of the Dearne Valley Water Board, and he’s vire-chairman of the governors of the Mexborough Schofield Technical Institute.

His many friends will wish him well in his new job, which does not involve the termination of his public work, as a normal absence from the district necessarily would.
