Mr F. Brooke (Labour):

Aged 39. Born Goldthorpe, but resided in Thurnscoe for 20 years. Thurnscoe branch manager for Messrs Gallons Ltd. 20 years Secretary of first branch of Shop Assistants’ Union to be formed in area. Organiser and joint secretary of Thurnscoe Chamber of Trade.    Yorkshire District I Council delegate for N U.D.A.W., West Ward Labour Party secretary, vice-chairman of Thurnscoe Old Aged Pensioners Association.

Mr.H. Hollingsworth (Ind.)

Former member of Dearne Ui ban Council. For many years in business in Thurnscoe as newsagent A West Ward resident and his work for newsagents appropriately recognised last year by election to National Presidency of the National Federation of Newsagents. Prominent Methodist

Mr. C. H. McCarthy (Ind.):

Born Bradford, 1904, Entered mills at 12 as -half-timer.” Full-timer at 13. At 15 set up for himself as a fruit and fish salesman. Returned to mills in 1926 as woolcomber. During the next six years crowded the jobs of coal-dealer, fitter’s labourer, fruit and bread salesman until he finally went to Thurnscoe and Goldthorpe In 1932 as pioneer for largest wholesale bread distributors in’ Yorkshire.

Has resided in Thurnscoe permanently since 1940
