Dearne District.

A progressive newcomer to public work is Mr. Alan Beaney (Labour), of 16, Lidgett Lane, Thurnscoe, a young married man with a powerful personality and sound ideas. He was recently admitted to the Methodist Local Preachers’ Plan and is a regular attender at the Central Methodist Hall.

A native of Sunderland. He came to Thurnscoe eight years ago to work at Hickleton Colliery, where he is still engaged. He is the secretary of the East Ward division of the Dearne District Labour Party.

This is his first attempt at a local government election, and as one of the two official Labour candidates of the East Ward he has displaced Coun. G. H. Taylor.
