Double Wedding

Leadhill-Birch & Hargreaves-Birch

On Easter Monday at the Wesleyan Central Hall, Thurnscoe, the Rev. F. N. Charley officiating, a double wedding took place. Mr. George Leadhill, youngest son of Mrs. W. Leadhill, Silpho, Scarboro’, was married to Miss Ivy Birch, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Birch, 52, Thornely Crescent; and Mr. John Hargreaves, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. James Hargreaves, Orchard Villa, Bacup, Lancashire, was married to her sister, Miss Elsie Birch, who is the youngest daughter of the family.

The brides, who were given away by Mr. H. Birch, Bacup, (brother) and Mr. E. Brocklehurst, Upton (brother-in-law). Both wore Wedgewood blue georgette, blue satin slippers to match, Juliet caps trimmed with sequins, and carried sprays of lilies and white heather. They were attended by Miss Elsie Hargreaves and Miss Doris Sanderson. wearing Empire dresses of cerise crepe and carrying yellow tulips. A juvenile attendant, Marion Birch, was also dressed Empire style and carried a Victorian posy of tulips. The best men were Messrs. G. Hargreaves and Harold Jones, and Mr. Ronald Sanderson was groomsman. A reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents to sixty guests, and the couples then left for the East coast.

Mr. and Mrs. Leadhill will reside in Thurnscoe, where Mr. Leadhill is groundsman at the Hickleton playing fields in Chapel Lane. Mr. and Mrs. Hargreaves will reside at Bacup, where Mr. Hargreaves is in business as a metal merchant.

Mr. Leadhill is well known in local cricket circles. He went to Thurnscoe five years ago on the recommendation of Frank Dennis. the Hickleton, Scarboro’ and Yorkshire cricketer.
