Dearne Urban Council, which cover the townships of Bolton, Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe, have decided to approach the Manvers Main Colliery Company with a view to securing an interview to discuss the possibilities reopening the company’s Barnborough Main No. 5 pit.

The pit was closed on May 8. After a strike lasting a week, the 1,200 employees were Informed that owing to the “serious interference with the company’s contracts occasioned repeated lightning strikes” the pit would closed indefinitely.
