Mexborough and Swinton Times June 1, 1928
To-day (Friday), Mr. Francis Peck, of 5, Station Road, Thurnscoe, celebrates his 85th birthday.
Mr. Peck, who is a member of a well-known Swinton family, has lived in Thurnscoe for thirty-one years. He came here from Knottingley to take up the position of school attendance officer, and some years later entered the employment of the Hickleton Main Colliery as a timekeeper, which post he held for twenty years.
Mr. Peck was born at Swinton, one of a family of seven, three of whom are still living.
Mr. Peck has a fund of reminiscences, particularly of the glass bottle industry at Mexborough and Swinton, with which he was connected as a boy.
