Dearne Council’s Decision on Street lighting

Electricity easily defeated Gas in a discussion at Dearne Urban Council meeting last night, vhen the Council, despite protests by supporters of street lighting by gas, decided to carry out a scheme for improved street lighting by electricity at Thurnscoe. Goldthorpe and Highgate.

Mr. T. Swift pointed out that gas could do everything electricity could do in street lighting, and mentioned’ that 80 per cent, of street lighting in Britain to-day was by gas.

Supporters of the electricity proposal urged that electricity for street lighting was cleaner, healthier and cheaper.
