Faith-Healing By a Pastor
Claims of Cures from Thurnscoe Patients

Stories of remarkable faith cures said to have been Pastor Jefferies, Sunderland, were told to the ‘‘Sheffield Independent” representative, yesterday, at Thurnscoe, where three of the pastor’s patients live.

The first intimation of the cure was contained in a short message to our representative which ran: “Kitty Agar, eight years, 25, Tudor street. Thurnscoe. East, infantile paralysis, healed at Sunderland, 24September, by faith in Jesus through Paster Jefferies.”

A happy little girl turned a smiling face to the “Sheffield Independent” reporter who visited her.

She is the daughter of a Hickleton Main miner, and when seven months old sustained infantile paralysis. All feeling was taken from the body and the legs.

Her mother said that hundreds of pounds were spent in trying to obtain a cure, but without result. She went two the Leeds, Sheffield and Mexborough hospital, but eventually all doctors gave her up.

Child’s Quick Recovery.

“On 23 September, we heard of the wonderful pastor at Sunderland, “ said Mrs. Agar. “I took my little girl there next day, and at the Victoria Hall, where thousands people were congregated, I pushed my way to the front, and put my little girl the platform where Pastor Jefferies was conducting services. “

Kittv Agar, describing her experiences, said, “The man took me by the hand and asked me if believed in Christ. I said ‘Yes’ and that I loved him. He then led me across the platform. I this had never walked before.” She said she was getting better every day.

Across the road, at 28. Tudor Street, lives Miss Nellie Cook, aged 20, who five years ago sustained injury to the brain when she fell downstairs which caused paralysis to set in. She also was given by the doctors as hopeless, and was taken to Sunderland. She is now able to walk with assistance, and declares that she is getting belter every day.

“It is simply faith.” she said in interview. “I believed that I could be made well again, and I know that I shall B able walk in the course of a few weeks.”

“No Pain Since.”

Yet another case of healing by faith is reported Mrs. Nellie Baxter, who said that for five years a week had not passed when she felt well. She suffered from severe headaches and heart failure. “From the moment Pastor Jefferies touched hand and head,’ she said, “all pain left me and 1 have not had another minute of pain since.’

Rev. J.E.Reilley, M.C.. the Superintendent minister of the South Yorkshire Coalfields Mission, in an interview with our representative on the subject of faith healing, said “Each one of us is endowed with a certain gift. It singing, or taking, or engineering. “

“It might that some have a sort of magnetism in which enables us to straighten the tortured limbs and make sick whole. It needs faith to the enabled to enjoy a cure by faith, but I believe that even without faith in God there might the cases of healing.”
