Fighting at Thurnscoe

Philip Shaw, miner, of Thurnscoe, and George Oldroyd, also a miner, of Thurnscoe, were summoned for obstructing the highway by fighting at Thurnscoe, on October 26.

Shaw appeared with a bandage round his head.

PC Ward said he was on duty in High Street Thurnscoe and heard a disturbance in Butcher Street. He saw blows exchange several times. Traffic was suspended for a time. When told he would be reported Oldroyd replied β€œHe hit me first.”

Shaw was fined 2/6 and costs, and Oldroyd 5/– and costs.
