Fined For Riding

Sequel to Hickleton Mishap

For riding on a tub below ground, endangering the safety of the mine, Fred Chantrey (58), colliery workman, of Thurnscoe, was fined 40s. at the Doncaster West Riding Police Court on Tuesday.

Mr. A. S. Furniss, prosecuting, said the circumstances were tragic. Chantrey rode on a tub with a 16 year old youth, Arnold, who received fatal injuries in an accident.

The Chairman (Mr. M. L. Nokes) said he thought Chantrey had been punished severely in his own mind during the last three months.
