George Wesson – Well known Local Musician

The funeral took place on Boxing Day of Mr George H Wesson, “The Laurels,” Thurnscoe, who died on Tuesday last.

A well known local musician, he played with the leading bands of the district.

The Rev D.E. Hughes, Rector of Thurnscoe, officiated at the Church and at the graveside.

Outside the house, the massed bands of the Hickleton, Elsecar and Manvers Main played “Lead, heavenly light.” They headed the funeral cortege, and at the graveside played “Deep Harmony”
