Gold Medal at Music Festival

Elizabeth Birchall, who won her first gold medal at the Music Festival on Saturday, is the daughter of Mr. William Birchall, a miner employed at Hickleton Main, and Mrs. Birchall of 185 Houghton Road.

This was her third festival.  At Mexboro’ last year she gained a second-class certificate in the junior pianoforte class; and in November she won at first class certificate in the vocal solo class at Doncaster.  She is a former pupil of the Hill School.

She has been studying the pianoforte for nearly two years, and singing for the last six months.  She has taken part in a number of church concerts, and on Jan 29th is to play “Alice” in a production of “Dick Whittington,” in aid of St. Helen’s Church.  She is a pupil of Miss K. Noble of Holme Farm, Thurnscoe.
