Golden Wedding.
An old Lincolnshire couple now residing at 22, Britton Street, Thurnscoe, Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Foster, celebrated their golden wedding on Monday.
They were married at Swinstead Parish Church, near Grantham. During their 50 years’ married life, Mr. and Mrs. Foster have resided in various parts of the country, Mr. Foster following his work as a joiner. They came to Thurnscoe 15 years ago, Mr. Foster being then maintenance foreman on the Hickleton Colliery Company’s housing estate.
For 26 years he was employed in Lincoln City and during the last war he served with the Lincoln City Police Force. He is also an old Volunteer and bandsman, and for 13 years was with the 4th Lincolnshire Territorial Band, Mr. Foster at the age of 12 played before the late King Edward and late King George (then the Prince of Wales) with the Earl of Lancaster’s Band at Grimsthorpe Castle. He finished his career as a bandsman with the Bullcroft Colliery Band in 1924.
Still hale and hearty at 73, he follows his employment and only this week finishes his 1.500 th walking stick, with inlaid handle. He hails from a long lived family, his mother living to be 93 and his father to be W. Mrs. Foster, who is two years her husband’s senior, enjoys good health.
The couple have two married daughters, one still in Lincoln, the younger residing with her mother and father. They have three grand-children and one greatgrandchild. Their only son is serving with the Royal Engineers in France.
They were the recipients of several golden wedding cards. The actual celebration party has been postponed until Christmas for a family re-union
