Hard At The Top

May 1969

South Yorkshire Times, May 17th, 1969

Thurnscoe harmonic Male voice choir discovered that it is a hard road to the top ranks of the country’s leading choir on Saturday when they competed at Hull City Hall festival.

In the afternoon session in which five top-class male voice choirs took part they were congratulated on the singing of their two pieces by numerous people, but just failed to make first place, coming four marks behind Felling (Durham).

In the evening challenge class, in which 10 choirs took part, the adjudicator was full of praise for their performance, particularly their rendering of “Miranda”, but again they were beaten into second place by felling.

After the whole festival the choir were invited to take part in an annual Hull City Hall concert in September. Meanwhile their next booking is at the high Melton training College on Sunday when they will give a concert organised by high Melton church.
