Scoring was fast when Hickleton (156 for 3) defeated Barnsley (155) by seven wickets in their Council fixture at Thurnscoe on Saturday. Starting in fine drizzle, Barnsley knocked up their total in 97 minutes, sixteen-years-old R. Umbers (30) making highest score for Barnsley in his first match with the first team.

Opening for Hickleton. G. Gibbs gave a show of fine batsmanship, making 74 not out, Hickleton passing Barnsley’s score in two hours nine minutes.

Big Hitters

There was some good batting on Monday when Hickleton Main (184 for 4) defeated Frickley (181 for 3 declared). J. Newton (97 not out) and W. Tyrell (79 not out) made the Frickley runs. After C. Wright (21) and R. Burton (3) had gone, J. Wright (82) and P. Atkinson (46) put on 112 for Hickleton’s third wicket.
