Hickleton in Final

To Meet Batley at Brodsworth

Hickleton and Batley will meet at Brodsworth to-morrow (Saturday) in the Yorkshire Council championship final.

In the semi-finals on Saturday. Batley beat Hemsworth by six wickets, and Saltaire lost to Hickleton by five runs.

Batley and Hickleton have not won the Council championship previously, although Hickleton went near two seasons ago when beaten by Hemsworth in the final.

Salts’ defeat by Hickleton was their first of the season. Hickleton were dismissed for the meagre score of 74. but for once Salts’ batsmen failed. B. Henry (30) eighth man in with the total 60, being top scorer. Five batsmen registered “ducks.” For Hickleton, veteran Alban Turner took 4 for 19 and J. Hutchinson 4 for 29. J. Lawrence, the Saltaire bowler, took 7 for 24 bringing his record for the season to 100 wickets at a cost of 6.7 runs each.

In the other semi-final Hemsworth were dismissed for 105, Batley replying with 108 for four.

Wath Well Beaten

Wath Athletic were well beaten in their last match by Rockingham. The visitors were dismissed for 104. A. Moore 43. F. Fisher 23 and C. Vickers 13 being the leading scorers. R. Cutts (4 for 20). F. Beecham (3 for 21) and C. Base (2 for 28) were Wath’s successful bowlers. Wath could only muster 57 (F Godfrey 18, R. Cutts 12 not out) against the bowling of C. Vickers (4 for 20) and A. Broadhead (3 for 28).

Swinton’s Big Win

Swinton beat Mexborough for the fourth time, at Mexborough, on Saturday. by 120 runs. Swinton’s opening pair. L. N. Bedford (48) and W. Broadhead (64), piled on the runs for Swinton. C. Lee contributed a useful 18 and when Swinton declared at 174 for 4 G. Cadman and G. Barnett were unbeaten at 17 and 15 respectively.

Ellison (5 for 17) and F. Ellis (4 for 32). were responsible for Mexborough’s cheap dismissal for 54 (T Hargreaves 14). For Mexborough. T. Leach took 2 for 40.

Denaby Out for 31

Following their smashing defeat of Swinton which robbed Swinton of a chance for honours, Denaby suffered a surprising home defeat by Firbeck Main.

Firbeck could  only muster 67 (Rogers 15, Smith 11, Ellis 10), but even this small score was too big for Denaby who were all out fur 31 (Brown 8, Cory 6 not out). Six wickets fell for four runs.

For Firbeck, Sherwin had 5 for 15 and Larke 5 for 14, while for Denaby C. Pegg took 5 for 33.
