Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Monday 07 October 1907
The meeting between Hickleton Main and Rotherham County Reserves was probably the most interesting game which has been seen at Thurnscoe.
From start to finish the game was full of incident, and it seemed, anybody’s game right to the end.
Hickleton have a reputation for being more at home when playing against the slope, and they were true to that reputation on Saturday.
Hickleton’s defence were caught napping when Rotherham got their two goals, though the County, with one or two Midland Leaguers with them, gave Hickleton about the hardest test they wall have in the Sheffield League.
There was no scoring in a keenly contested first half, but soon after the interval Formstone scored for the Main. The County equalised, but Godfrey put the home team ahead, only for the visitors to get level again. Result:— Hickleton Main 2 goals, Rotherham County 2 goals
