Hickleton Man’s Sad End

The death occurred, under sad circumstances, on Monday night, of Harrop Lockwood, aged 49 years, foreman joiner, of Pit Row, Thurnscoe East.

About 18 months ago, whilst at the Hickleton Main Colliery, Lockwood had the misfortune to be knocked down by the locomotive engine in the colliery yard, which accident resulted in the amputation of one of his legs below the knee.

He did not make the progress it was hoped would, but his death, coming it did, was a painful surprise to his friends.

Deceased had considerable musical ability, particularly as ‘cello player, and he was prominently connected with the Hickleton and Goldthorpe Choral Societies.
