Lord Halifax On The Oxford Movement

A picture of the crowd which attended the meeting on the lawn at Hickleton Hall last Thursday afternoon following a celebration of High Mass in commemoration of the centenary of the Oxford Movement. Lord Halifax, the aged president of the Anglo-Catholic Congress, and of the English Church Union, in compliment to whom these celebrations were held at his home, is here shown in the picture addressing the people assembled before the terrace.

He is telling them of the wonderful change brought about by the Oxford Movement in the life and worship of the Anglican communion. Lord Halifax was born only five years after the Movement whose centenary is now being celebrated; he was intimate with many of the early stalwarts and for more than half a century has been the leading layman in the Movement.
