The Council of the Yorkshire Miners’ Association on Monday passed a resolution calling on the Government to redeem its pledge to restore the seven hours day.
Polling in the by-election for the vacancy in the representation of the Conisborough division on the West Riding County Council takes place on Saturday, June 20th.
Mr. Charles Biggins, of Mexborough, was yesterday installed president of the South Yorkshire Council of Butchers’ Associations, and is the first member from this district to receive the honour.
The formal opening of the Mexborough Secondary School extensions is to be performed on Saturday, 25th July, by Sir Percy Jackson, chairman of the West Riding Education Committee.
The Mexborough branch of the British Legion are obtaining a standard, which will be dedicated at morning service in the Mexborough Parish Church on Feast Sunday, June 21st. The branch will be represented, with the standard, at the Mexborough Hospital Demonstration on the same day.
Although the April trading in the Yorkshire coalfield showed an improvement on March, it is still well below the minimum wage standard and a further deficit in paying the minimum wage for June is incurred. The accumulated deficiency, since the owners cancelled a debt of £9,000,000, is £2,513,746.
The Dearne District Light Railway Committee have been authorised by a conference of the four constituent authorities, the Urban District Councils of Wombwell, Wath-on-Dearne, Bolton-on-Dearne, and Thurnscoe, to enter into an agreement over a period of 34 years for the co-ordination with the Yorkshire Traction Company of light railway and ‘bus services in the Dearne Valley, and for the pooling of traffic receipts.
