A biography of Lord Halifax by Stuart Hodgson was published on Wednesday.

The institution of Archdeacon Stannard as Vicar of High Melton will take place early next month.

The Diamond Jubilee of St. George’s Church, Jump, is to be celebrated on July 27th this year.

Over 2,500 women are now employed in men’s jobs on the L.N.E.R. and the number is increasing daily.

The annual meeting of the Old Wathonians will be held at Wath Grammar School to-morrow (Saturday).

Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Cauwood, of The Yews, Tankersley, formerly of Wath, have removed to take up their residence in Wakefield.

Grimethorpe Colliery Band have now given over 50 broadcasts and were on the air again in the Forces programme on Tuesday.

A long service certificate for 60 years’ service as a Wesleyan Reform local preacher was presented to Mr. S. Lisle, of Wombwell, on Sunday.

Mr. A. R. Martin, headmaster of Adwick Road School, Mexborough, takes up his new appointment as head of the new Darfield Modern School on April 21st.

Schools in the Don and Dearne area break up for Easter holidays on Wednesday, instead of Thursday, the extra day being granted for the efforts of the children during the recent War Weapons Week. School will be resumed on April 21st.

Ald. T. Tomlinson, of Elsecar attended the Management Board meeting of the Mexborough Hospital for the first time on Wednesday as the representative of the West Riding County Council in succession to the late Mr. T. Blewitt.

After taking p art in many of the R.A.F. ” leaflet raids over Germany, Sergeant Eric Tiptaft, only son of Mrs. and the late Mr. R. Tiptaft, formerly of Old Denaby, has met his death by the accidental discharge of a revolver which he was cleaning.

Mr. Charles Hattersley, only son M Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Hattersley, has passed the solicitors’ final examination. Mr. Hattersley is a member of Messrs. J. W. and A. E. Hattersley, the Mexborough firm of solicitors, and served his articles with Mr. C. M. Hattersley.

The marriage took place at Sheffield on Saturday of Miss Gwenffreda Kathleen Williams, daughter of the late Rev. David Williams and Mrs. Williams and Mr. Alfred Sylvester Harrington. Miss Williams was a member of the old Mexborough Dramatic Society and her father was for some years Wesleyan minister at Conisborough.
