The Swinton Church sale of work yesterday realised £105.

The men in the Sheffield engineering and allied trade have consented to a reduction in wages of 10s a week from January 1st.

Miners’ wages locally for December have fallen by about 2d in the £. The January figures, it is expected, will show an increase.

Invitations have been issued this week for the Mexborough Cricket Club Ball, at the Mexborough Secondary Schools, on January 4th.

The Wath Urban Council has asked the Midland Railway Company to stop certain trains at Wath, instead of Swinton, in future.

Many promoters of dances are finding a strong reaction setting in against the modern dance and in favour of the old-fashioned programme.

The Barnburgh Colliery Orchestra, assisted by the Oxford Road Chapel Choir, will give a concert in the Empire Theatre, Mexboro’, on Sunday evening next.

At the Cadeby Colliery a drift is being constructed from the Barnsley bed to the Parkgate bed.

A large area of Parkgate coal has been leased from Sir Alington Bewicke-Cople and the Parkgate seam, when developed, will provide employment for 500 more men and increase the daily output of this colliery by 2,000 tons.

The funeral will take place at Swinton, on Saturday, of Herbert Crossley, the well-known Mexboro’ boxer who died suddenly in hospital at Now York on November 2101.

The South Yorkshire Cricket League championship cup and medals will be presented at the annual dinner of the winning club. Adwick-on-Dearne, next Thursday evening.

The Mexboro’ Amateur Dramatic Society have arranged to produce “The Merchant of Venice” and “Mice and Men” at the Hippodrome, Mexboro’, during the last week in March.

At a meeting recently held of the Wath Rural Deanery Choir Festivals Committee, it was unanimously decided to hold the first annual Choir Festival in the Wombwell Parish Church in June, next year.

Messrs. Dean and Dawson announce a special excursion to Nottingham on Monday and Tuesday next. December 12th and 13th. from the Mexborough district, in connection with the Nottingham Races.

The Barnburgh miners’ annual “convivial” will be held in the Memorial Hall, Barnburgh on Dec. 17 and addresses will be given by Lady Mabel Smith, Mr. Sam Roebuck and the Mayor of Barnsley. Mr. Sam Jones.

The Mexborough Orpheus Glee Singers (assisted by the Oxford Road Church Choir) are giving a concert in the Free Christian Hall, Mexborough, next Thursday evening. Soloists: Mr. Ernest Akroyd, of Halifax (tenor); Miss Annie Green, of Masborough (violinist). Conductor, Mr. G. A. Nixon. Prices: 2s 4d. and 1s. 3d.

A big crowd is expected at to-night’s final Gilchrist Lecture at Wath-on-Dearne, to hear. Or. A. H. risen, the secretary of the Gilchrist Trust.
