An interim dividend of 2 per cent., as compared with 2 ½ per cent. last year, has been declared by the Yorkshire Amalgamated Collieries, Ltd.
Mexborough Montagu Hospital will benefit from proceeds of the Mexborough Chrysanthemum show to be staged at the Free Christian Church this week-end.
Mr. Reginald Hill, formerly of Wombwell, has been appointed Deputy Town Clerk of the Metropolitan Borough of Hackney at a salary of £850 rising to £1,000 a year.

Mr. C. E. Webster, a former member of Conisbrough Urban Council and a well-known local business man, has taken over the tenancy of the Lord Conyers Hotel, Conisbrough.
A crop of barley was harvested last week on two fields adjoining and belonging to Station Road Greyhound Track, Wombwell. The land has been waste for many years.
At a recent angling competition in the canal between Wetmore Bridge, Wath, and Broomhill, 78 enthusiasts set out for a good catch, and on their return for the weigh-in only 13-oz of fish had been caught.
Mrs. R. Dayson, hon. representative of the Silver Thimble Fund in Mexborough has been instrumental in raising over £128 for the Fund in just over a year. The Fund aims at providing ambulances, rescue launches, and travelling surgical units, etc., for the armed Forces.
A baby born at Great Houghton last week was born ten years almost to the hour after her brother. Donald Benbridge, of Cross Street. Donald was born on October 20th, 1931. and the little girl on October 20th 1941. The baby weighed 10lbs. but is to be called Jean not Decima.

Some 75 special constables from Mexborough, Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe paraded at Goldthorpe on Sunday for a sub divisional inspection by Superintendent J. Walker, of Doncaster West Riding Police, and the divisional commander of the special constables, Mr. E. W. Pettifer, of Doncaster.
The ‘Silver Tree” effort which is being organised by the Ladies Committee of the Montagu Hospital will be held on Thursday, December 5th. Mr and Mrs. L. R Honeywill, of Adwick-on- Dearne, have kindly consented to be host and hostess. Last year over £200 was raised by a similar effort, and it is hoped to do even better this year.
Speaking at the annual meeting of the Barnsley Local Association of Boy Scouts, at the Town Hall on Saturday, Mr. H. E. G. West, County Commissioner, said that great things were going to happen in the movement. ” There may be changes that some of us don’t like,” he said. “We may say that the good old scouting days have gone, but bear in mind this has not been thought out for the good of one or two, but has been thought out on a national scale. The Chief Scout is a go-getter and is realising the tremendous importance of Scouting to the nation.
The annual meeting of the Mexborough Local Association of the Boy Scouts’ Association will be held at the Times Office, Mexborough, on Tuesday, November 11th.
Returning from leave on Monday of last week, Aircraftman Fred Poulter (36), whose parents live in Brampton Road, Wombwell, was killed the following day.

Mr. W. A. Lewis, chairman of the Mexborough Montagu Hospital Management Committee, has resigned the position he has held for 20 years as one of the Sheffield district representatives on the British Hospitals Council.
Two people were detained in Mexborough Montagu Hospital after a collision between a motor car and locomotive at a level crossing at Wath on Monday. The car was carried for nearly 30 yards on the buffer of the locomotive and was completely wrecked.
When a car was completely wrecked in collision with a locomotive at a level crossing at Wath-on-Dearne on Monday the occupants, a man and his wife, had narrow escapes, and both were detained at Mexborough Montagu Hospital suffering from injuries and shock.

The South Yorkshire Musical Comedy Society presented “No, No, Nanette’ to a packed audience at the Gaumont Cinema, Doncaster, on Sunday. This was the Society’s fifth production of the show and was as much appreciated as the previous four at Denaby, Mexborough, and to Army and R.A F audiences.
