Mexborough Secondary School is to be known in future as Mexborough Grammar School.

Lost from her home until 2.30 a.m., Jean Walker, of Orchard Street, Wombwell, was found asleep in the back seat of a car near the fairground at Wombwell.
The death occurred on Sunday of one of Mexborough’s oldest residents, Mr. George Taylor, a former member of Mexborough Urban Council. He was 88.
Parishioners of St. George’s Church, Mexborough, on Friday presented a cheque to the Rev. G. Bernard, curate at St. George’s for the last four years, who is to take up a new appointment in London.

In aid of the Mexborough Mobile Canteen Fund, Miss Constance Nichols is presenting “Cavalcade of Happiness,” a variety programme on October 29th and 30th, and the Constance Nichols Repertory Players are to present “Ladies in Waiting,” a thriller on November 5th and 6th.
The proprietors of Aspro have resolved to recommend at the forthcoming annual general meeting to be held on October 8th, 1941, the payment of a final dividend for the year ended June 30th, 1941, of 15 per cent. actual (less income tax at 10s. in the f) on the Ordinary Stock payable on October 8th, 1941.
Reports reaching Rome say Wing – Commander Bader escaped from a German hospital and was recaptured after four days. The reports say that soon after receiving his new leg he climbed out of a hospital window, reached the ground with the aid of a blanket, and walked away. He was recaptured 100 miles from the hospital.
Yorkshire mineworkers are enthusiastically responding to the appeal made to them by a joint council of owners and miners at Barnsley on Friday to increase output. Branches throughout Yorkshire coalfield are receiving reports of the conference, which was attended by representatives of management and workmen at every colliery in the county.

A film was watched through gas masks by cinemagoers at Goldthorpe on Wednesday night after fire had broken out in the stokehold under the screen, filling the hall with smoke.

The resignation of Mr. E. Sutcliffe, for 35 years senior master and senior mathematics master at Mexborough Secondary School, was yesterday submitted to the School Governors.
When Mary Anderson, aged 3, of Barnsley Road, Darfield, saw birds lined up on the telephone wires last week, ready for migration, she ran to her father and said “Daddy what are the birds queueing for?”
Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Hudson, of Cleveleys, Blackpool, and formerly of Mexborough, celebrated their golden wedding on Tuesday. Mr. Hudson, who is 71, was formerly wages clerk at Manvers Main for 51 years.
A sub-divisional parade of Special Constables from Mexborough, Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe will be inspected at Goldthorpe on Sunday, October 26th, by the Doncaster Divisional Commander, Mr. E. W. Pettifer. Conisbrough Savings Committee has decided not to combine with other local districts in the organisation of a Warships Week, but to hold its own ” Week,” commencing December 6th, when the target will be £70,000.
