New Licensees at Harlington

New licensees at the Harlington Inn to succeed Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Dyson—Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Roper —who moved in on Wednesday are very well known in Swinton and Thurnscoe districts, Mrs. Roper’s (nee Vernon) grandfather, Mr. G. R. Liversidge, having been licensee of the Gate Inn, Swinton. for 23 years until his death last year.

Mr. Roper, a native of Thurnscoe, who has been a member of the surveying staff at Hickleton Main Colliery for the past 24 years, will continue at the colliery.

An old boy of Mexborough Grammar School, he was a member of Thurnscoe Amateur Dramatic Society for 15 years, and was Liaison Officer attached to the 45th Battalion of the Home Guard during the war.

Mr. Roper’s wife. Dorothy, a native of Swinton, was a member of Wath Amateur Operatic Society for six years.
