New Vicar of Thurnscoe

June 1937

Mexborough and Swinton Times June 11, 1937

The Rev A.C.E. Bennett, who has been appointed to the living of St Hilda’s church, Thurnscoe East, hopes to be instituted by the Bishop of Sheffield in July 31.

For the three years he had been curate in charge of Dunscroft, Hatfield, near Doncaster, and has accomplished much excellent work.

Mr Bennett, who studied at St Aidan’s Theological College Birkenhead, was ordained by the Bishop of Worcester, and came from a very busy parish in that diocese.

Dunscroft is a district of 6000 people, where most of the men are miners employed at Hatfield Main Colliery. Mr Bennett is therefore well fitted to be in charge of a district like Thurnscoe East.
