In a case at the Barnsley West Riding Police Court, yesterday, it was stated that Tom Heponstall, a bus driver, of Thurnscoe, was driving a bus at Darfield at 1.20 a.m. without lights.
When stopped by Police-constable Turner, defendant said; “You blokes must search for me- This is about the 14th time this year.”
In court defendant asked the constable “Why did not you come and help me out of the fog ?”
The Constable: The fog was half mile away.
The Deputy Magistrates’ Clerk (Mr. T. C. Walsh): It is the first time I have heard it suggested that the police should get anyone out a fog.
It was stated that the defendant had been fined nine times this year for motoring offences, and in ordering him to pay 20s. the Chairman (Mr. S. Jones) told him that if he continued in this manner he would be unable to get a licence.
