Mr. Frederick W. Robinson, a deputy at Hickleton Colliery for more than twenty years, has been nominated for the post of Agent of the Yorkshire Area of the National Association of Colliery Overmen, Deputies, and Shotfirers, for which the election takes place this month.

The post, representing 8,000 colliery officials, was recently vacated by Mr. Laurie Wormald on his election as Yorkshire Area General Secretary.

Mr. Robinson is secretary of Hickleton Branch of the Association, a member of the Area Executive Committee and serves on the Committee of the South Yorkshire Mining Society. Last year he obtained a Second Class Mine Manager’s Certificate.

Mexborough born Mr. Robinson is an old student of Wath Grammar School. In Amateur Operatic circles he became known as one of Yorkshire’s most popular tenors and played leading roles with tunny of the operatic societies in Yorkshire. He gave up the amateur stage to concentrate on his union work with N.A.C.O.D.S.

Mr. and Mrs. Robinson live at Scawsby, Doncaster, and have one daughter, Jacqueline, a student at Ripon Teachers’ Training College.
