Mr William Stables
The death ocurred on Saturday of Mr William Stables (81) of High Street, Thurnscoe.
Mr Stables retired from Hickleton Main Colliery at 73. He had been ill for some time but was well-known for his dry humour and wit.
His main interest in line was his workshop where he spent all his spare time doing jobs for others.
During the war he was the Chief Armourer to this area for the Home Guard.
His pride was the model traction engine which he constructed over a period of ten years’ “spare time.”
A widower for nearly I5 years, he leaves an only son, William. The funeral was held on Wednesday,
