Mr W Oades

By the passing of Mr William Oades at the home of his eldest son Mr W T Oades, of St Helens farm, Thurnscoe, the villager has lost one of its oldest and most respected residents.

Mr Oades was 84 years of age, and came to Thurnscoe 57 years ago.

He was born at Campsall and started work there at a very early age. He was employed in the laying of Swinton and Knottingley Railway from the start to finish, and during that time came to Thurnscoe.

His wife died 25 years ago, and since then he has resided with his son.

He was noted for his hedging and ploughing and won numerous prizes. He was also noted in the agricultural world for his smartness in making both round and square stacks
