Obituary Mr. W. T. Oades
The death of Mr W. T. Oades, of St. Helen’s Farm, Thurnscoe, has deprived Thurnscoe of one of its oldest residents.
Born at Bolton, he came to Thurnscoe 64 years ago and had lived around. St. Helen’s Square for most of that time. He was 67.
For over 30 years he had been employed at Hickleton Colliery as home coal deliverer. He was a member of Hickleton Main Cricket Club, Thurnscoe Chamber of Trade, Thurnscoe and District Ploughing Society (for which he was treasurer for many years), the Farmers’ Union and other societies.
He leaves a son and seven daughters. The funeral took place at St. Helen’s Church, Thurnscoe, last Thursday.
